Software Development Manager
Software Development Manager
Why is our Manchester Engineering team the next step for you?
Worldpay has recently expanded its software engineering capacity by opening a delivery centre in our Manchester office. With two brand new teams ramping up we are looking for a dedicated development manager to head up the teams.
The engineering teams are working on our main eCommerce gateways, that safely and securely handle several million transactions per day for our customers around the world and we release code into these platforms at least once every few weeks. Extremely high availability and performance is what we do – and you can expect over 800 transactions per second to flow through these gateways on a busy day.
How will you add value on a day-to-day basis?
In this role, you’ll manage two agile development teams (Java and C#) and develop their skills and capabilities through mentoring, coaching, pairing etc. whilst driving continual improvement as expected for truly agile working. You’ll agree and manage the roadmap of development work in collaboration with business and technical stakeholders and contribute to the initiation and delivery of projects. You’ll make sure that software is developed following best practices and security principles (e.g. PCI and PII data, OWASP) and be ready to review code from time to time.
We’ll want you to act as a technical product owner; ensuring that the teams also deliver engineering-led improvements such as the removal of technical debt. You’ll make sure key stakeholders are informed and understand the impact of design decisions and the cost of business requirements, and you’ll work in collaboration with architects and developers, to agree on the best approach for delivering complex features, balancing costs, risks and benefits including strategic fit. You’ll also create proof-of-concept solutions for challenging design problems or to demonstrate the viability of proposed technologies.
What will make you the ideal candidate?
You’ll have experience developing business critical distributed systems, a passion for technology and a proven track record of leading high performing teams. You’ll have line management experience including SMART objective setting, personal development and performance management, as well as practical Agile experience of Scrum or Kanban. We’re looking for someone from a technical software development background, ideally with recent hands-on experience with either Java or C#.
Payments or financial technology industry knowledge is advantageous as well as experience with design and architecture. You’ll ideally have technology transformation and transition experience, as well as knowledge of relational and No SQL databases, CI/CD tooling (such as Jenkins, Jira and Confluence) and SAFe.
Worldpay has merged with Vantiv Inc. to create a new global leader in payments. The new Worldpay will have the scale, the reach and the resources to take our success story to another level. This move allows us to expand further into high growth markets, deliver innovation at scale and above all, brings together exceptional talent and a shared passion that will help propel us forward to the next chapter of our collective story.
Our technology enables billions of payments to be made each year whether online or in person. Working with customers large and small we help them to take payments quickly, safely and reliably, allowing them to grow their businesses and making your life more convenient in the process.
