How will you add value on a day-to-day basis?
Developing the automation that is used to provide Infrastructure as a Service to our internal development and operations teams. Typical automation work will be a combination of creating workflows using orchestrator technology, developing scripts to integrate with and configure infrastructure services and utilising configuration management tools to maintain desired state.
Our private cloud is built on VMware technology, and we use AWS, Google and Azure public cloud components. The cloud provides a web portal and API for our internal users to request infrastructure services available in our data centres. This could be things such as virtual servers, DNS records, Load balancing, firewall rules, user accounts, virtual desktops, database and middleware platforms etc. Delivery of these services is automated and the development and debugging of these automations is the responsibility of the Automation Engineer.
What will make you the ideal candidate?
The automation engineer will be concerned with developing, testing, releasing and debugging coded sequences of actions for delivering infrastructure services. This will involve many diverse infrastructure products and will require the programming of APIs and CLIs as well as use of scripting technologies. Use of Orchestrators especially vCentre Orchestrator and vRealize Automation
In this role engineers will be developing and debugging automations that will deliver infrastructure services in our hybrid cloud environments.
Developing automations using VMware vRealize Orchestrator.
Developing scripts to provision and configure infrastructure services
Test and debugging of workflows and scripts (‘automations’)
Ensuring automations are robust and pass rigorous test criteria
Ensuring automations are fit be promoted to staging and live environments
Sstem administration experience at least one of: Linux/Unix/Windows
Experienced in creating workflows using orchestrator tools (especially vCentre Orchestrator, Ansible Tower, ServiceNow)
VMware vSphere Administration
Public Cloud Administration (AWS, Azure, GCP)
One or more scripting: PowerShell, Python, Ruby, Perl
Knowledgeable in devops practices including version control, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery
Interpreting and developing against multiple of different REST API’s
Software Packaging: Docker, RPM, MSI
Tools experience: Nexus, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, SCCM, GitHub
Knowledge of Application technologies: J2EE/ Tomcat/ Weblogic/ Websphere.
Knowledge of Database technologies: Oracle/ MySQL/ SQLServer, Hadoop, Mongo
