Data Quality Analyst
Why is our Data Transformation team the next step for you?
Worldpay is one of the largest global payments (Fintech) businesses in the world that has put data at the centre of the business by creating a new Data Transformation team that spans business and technology. At the heart of this is our large Hadoop based Enterprise Data Platform that will be used to provide data insights both to our internal teams and our customers. The Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) is an innovative use of “Big Data” technologies to provide powerful analytic capabilities for Worldpay. For this, we currently use two Hadoop clusters in a HA and DR configuration with an expansion plan too many hundred nodes; based on the Hortonworks Data Platform.
The integrity of data in this system will have a major impact on the productivity of the Enterprise Data Platform. And so we are creating this role with the opportunity to have a practical and measurable impact on the improvement of data quality in the Enterprise Data Platform. There is also opportunity for the right candidate to assist in the governance of EDP’s data.
How will you add value on a day-to-day basis?
Working as an integral part of Data Governance and Quality, you will source data using the chosen data profiling tool. You will be talking with users and developers to unearth known, or suspected, data quality issues. This also includes investigating data quality issues, recording findings and actions in Jira. You will encourage users to log suspected data quality issues in Jira. You will prioritise data quality issues according to their impact on the business and pursue resolution at the source of the problem. If necessary, you will prepare business case for resolution and escalate to management.
On a given day, you may find yourself defining data cleaning rules, as a last resort, where resolution at the root of the problem is not feasible. It would involve enriching metadata with data quality assessments. You will develop, maintain and test measures of data quality. You will also identify planned system changes that affect data quality and monitor data quality daily. You will describe and implement data quality requirements for different datasets and will define Data Quality key design decisions for the EDP project.
What will make you the ideal candidate?
You will possess an excellent understanding of the technical side of data management gained through relational databases and/or NoSQL experience, as well as understanding the data from a business perspective. You will also have a very good knowledge of SQL - any experience with Hive QL would be advantageous. You will have a good understanding of UNIX systems, especially Linux along with file formats: csv, XML, JSON, etc. You will be working with business users and establish a working group to raise and understand the business impact of data anomalies and prioritise data quality issues according to business value, materiality and cost. For this purpose you should possess excellent communication skills.
You will also have strong analytical skills, have an attention to detail and the ability and willingness to create and maintain concise, accurate, readable, relevant documentation. An existing knowledge of the Hortonworks or Apache Big Data toolset will be an advantage, as would any exposure to data security regulations (PCI-DSS, PII, etc.), metadata and the data lifecycle
