An Infrastructure Designer is required to:

  • Specify and design a number of environments from test to production for a portfolio of Worldpay's Corporate Projects - covering core infrastructure and capacity for Hosting (VMWare, X86, Linux, Windows, Storage), Networks (VLAN's, F5, Firewalls), Middleware (Tomcat, Oracle Weblogic, MQ, .NET), Database (Coherence, Oracle & SQL) and User Access/RBAC (IAM/AD).
  • Engage with Worldpay's strategic hosting platform and design and implement automated builds and processes.
  • Consult and oversee delivery issues of core infrastructure in each environment
  • Specify and design tooling requirements - Puppet, GIT, Nexus, Jenkins, Ctrl-M, Connect Direct, Monitoring, Backups, Configuration Management etc
  • Specify and design security requirements - HSM, Oracle IAM, Vormetric, TDE, RBAC, AD
  • The role requires close collaboration with the middleware and database design and engineering teams who are producing the blueprint designs for Oracle components (Weblogic, OHS, Coherence, RAC, database, Golden Gate, IAM), IBM MQ, and Tomcat

Designs will include:

  • Detailed specifications of servers and configurations - e.g. IP addresses, host names, firewall rules, configuration parameters.
  • Hardware and License Capacity planning across all areas of infrastructure
  • Test Data provision from production through obfuscation and into all test environments.
  • Refresh of test data and maintenance of environments.
  • Core Infrastructure - X86 hardware, VMWare, Linux, Security, Network, Firewalls, F5, Database, Monitoring, Middleware, Tooling & Deployment, User Access.
  • Single Instance through to Full HA depending on the environment requirements.
  • The successful applicant will need to be willing to be hands on when necessary and assist with builds, configuration and scripting automated deployments.
  • The role may also require the engineering of new products - e.g. Tomcat and Spring Boot.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • To provide infrastructure design leadership and be accountable for the development, maintenance, communication and implementation of the infrastructure designs in one, or more:
  • major projects or IT programmes;
  • significant global infrastructure technology domains;
  • Responsible for the low level infrastructure design of one or more projects or programmes, where required.
  • Liaise with the relevant GTE domains, the business and external suppliers to assist the project manager in the delivery and integration of the components (application and infrastructure) into the final infrastructure solution.
  • To be a trusted source of infrastructure expertise and pro-actively provide design leadership and guidance to projects, 3rd party partners and infrastructure domains in their planning and project development lifecycle including
  • Provision of initial costs, resource estimates, timelines, plans and assumptions, using standard project processes and contribution to feasibility studies, concepts and business cases;
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives and working towards achieving best practice for GTE.
  • To implement and operate the technology governance framework in order to assess all projects and initiatives for 'fit' against the GTE technology strategy, architecture and policies, working to resolve non-conformance with the project.
  • To liaise and interface with project managers, enterprise architects, solution architects, infrastructure domains and where relevant the business to ensure that Infrastructure Design supports future GTE technology strategy, business strategy and project requirements across all WorldPay business divisions.
  • To contribute to technology supplier and product selections in conjunction with Enterprise Architecture and other areas of the GTE organisation.
  • To contribute to the preparation and delivery of briefings and presentations for the GTE Executive, and other business and IT executive management teams.
  • Provide expert infrastructure advice, and where appropriate, contribute to the shaping of commercial / contractual arrangements.
  • To project manage the processes required to support the infrastructure design function.
